On Monday 16 June, Anthony Horowitz ‒ creator of the bestselling Alex Rider series as well as the mastermind behind Midsomer Murders ‒ will be live-streamed into schools in an event with Walker Books, in association with National Literacy Trust.
The event, hosted by TV presenter Barney Harwood will see Anthony discuss Russian Roulette, the latest book in the world of teenage super-spy Alex Rider. Anthony will also answer questions from a live audience and those watching around the globe.
The National Literacy Trust have created a special ‘Russian Roulette’ classroom pack to encourage work in schools before and after the event. The pack will include ‘The White Carnation’, an Alex Rider short story only previously released in an exclusive package.
Anthony Horowitz says of the event; “I’m so glad Barney has agreed to talk to me live on air. Like me, he’s always been a huge supporter of books and reading and the two of us are going to be beamed into classrooms all over the country – a great way to reach as many children as possible whilst mercilessly sabotaging the schools’ daily schedule. Once again, I’m working with the National Literacy Trust. They’re indefatigable…and they can spell it.”
Jane Winterbotham, Walker Books Publishing Director and Anthony Horowitz’s editor, says of the event; “We’re thrilled that fans all across the country will have an opportunity to join Anthony Horowitz in a live webcast to mark the launch of Russian Roulette in paperback. Anthony has a brilliant rapport with his audience and this is a great way for him to speak directly to so many of them. It’s an event not to be missed!”
Jonathan Douglas, Director of the National Literacy Trust, said; “The National Literacy Trust is delighted to team up with Walker Books to bring Anthony Horowitz into English classrooms across the country. The interactive webcast and the lesson ideas in the cross-curricular resource will engage reluctant readers and provide an innovative route into discovering new texts.”
