Golden National Non-Fiction November

In just a few days time it will be the first day of National Non-Fiction November. However as it’s FCBG’s fiftieth anniversary this year we’ll be referring to the event as Golden NNFN and using #GNNFN on Twitter. This year the theme is Food and Festivals Around the World. Here are some of the special days which fall in the month of November:

3rd Book Lovers’ Day and Sandwich Day
5th Bonfire Night
7th Diwali
11th Armistice Day
16th Have a Party With Your Bear
20th Universal Children’s Day
22nd Thanksgiving

You can find suggestions for theme related activities on the GNNFN Resources page as well as a start-up list of recommended books, plus additional ideas and resources. Whether you’re putting up a special display, creating your own recipe book or organising a book event – please let us know how you are promoting and celebrating non-fiction.

We would like to invite you to enter this year’s exciting competition sponsored by Hodder Children’s Books. The challenge is to design a cake fit for a special 50th birthday party for FCBG. We are looking forward to receiving entries from book groups, schools and libraries. Look out for the tie-in blog about the process involved in creating Nadiya Hussain’s most recent cookery book ‘Bake Me A Celebration’ (Friday 2nd November).

Blogs and Book Reviews

A full programme of blogs and book reviews is planned for the month, to be posted on the FCBG website and on the sites of our guest reviewers which we will be providing links to via Twitter @FCBGNews. Look out for giveaways on Twitter as well! The blogs will explore aspects of current non-fiction publishing with the help of non-fiction fans, publishers, authors and illustrators and we will be reviewing the shortlist and winner of this year’s School Library Association’s Information Book Award (Thursday 8th November). Our guest reviewers will be helping to highlight some recent titles which reflect this year’s theme.

Have a fantastic Golden National Non-Fiction November!
