India is a land of many religions. And so there are many celebrations across the country throughout the year. As a child growing up in India, and as a Hindu, our biggest festival was Deepavali or Diwali. I loved Diwali for the stories behind it and also for the five days of holidays and festivities that came with it.
Until I was 18, our only new dress in a whole year was for Diwali and it made us really excited.
When I was asked to write a book about Diwali for young children, especially those who are not living in India, I seized my chance to celebrate my love for this festival.
But instead of writing a long blog post about it, I made a little video you can share to everyone. In this video I talk about how I celebrated the festival growing up in India and how I celebrate now in the UK. Don’t miss the reading of a few lines in the end.
Hope you enjoy watching the video and finding out more about the festival.
