What an amazing weekend!

I am absolutely sure that everyone who attended this weekend would agree that it was a fantastic event! It was packed full of terrific talks, dynamic discussions, lots of laughs, bundles of books, good company and fabulous food!

The staff at the Telford Innovation Campus could not have been nicer, or more helpful. All the service we received during our many cake breaks, meals and, particularly during the Gala dinner, was excellent, friendly and efficient. Thank you to them all!

Being with like-minded people is a very up-lifting experience and there was no end of book talk to satisfy even the most avid book lover. The publishers’ representatives were particularly lovely this year; at every stand, we were met with huge enthusiasm and interest and had some wonderful discussions about books we are using in the classroom, books that are going down really well in the library, awards, books that will be coming out soon… It was fantastic! The publishers also showed their usual generosity in sponsoring the different tea breaks and providing wine, soft drinks and many delicious cakes!

The programme of talks was very satisfying; there was a great range of authors/illustrators to listen to and chat to over the weekend. I asked as many people as possible what their favourite session had been- the initial response was ‘I can’t choose!’. However, here are a few comments I managed to gather!

‘Ali Sparkes- she was such a performer! So entertaining!’

‘My highlight was Katherine Rundell. She was so inspiring and so moving- and she can tightrope walk! Is there no end to her talents?’

‘Shane Hegarty was great. I really enjoy his ‘Darkmouth’ books.’

‘The poetry session with Joseph Coelho was fantastic. So inspiring with lots of ideas to use.’

‘Aren’t we lucky to have Anna (Conomos) as the Jean Russell Storyteller? She was so good.’

The theme of the conference was ‘Building Bridges: Forging Connections and Growing Readers’. It succeeded on all fronts.

We all send a huge thank you to the members of the Executive Committee and local groups who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we all had such a good time!

Please send any photos and comments/ posts about Conference that you would like to share!

Next year’s conference will be hosted by Reading CBG. We’re looking forward to it already!
