National Share-a-Story Month
National Share-A-Story Month (NSSM) is an annual celebration of the power of storytelling and story sharing, providing a fantastic opportunity to fulfil the core aim of the FCBG of bringing children and stories together. Across the country Federation book groups and individuals run a whole host of events. Each year we are inspired by a specific theme and work with different organisations to provide people with resources and opportunities.
National Share a Story Month 2024
The theme for 2024 was “A Feast of Stories”
We had a month-long celebration of food, wondrous creations and delicious delectables that can be in stories. From cream buns to hot chocolates, magical pizzas to fizzing drinks and everything in between.
We loved this theme as it reminds us how authors invoke all the senses in their stories- from delicious smells wafting from an oven to the design of sugary sweets, the sounds of whipped cream being sprayed on a hot chocolate and the feeling of fizzy drinks on the tongue.
We always want our themes to be open for children of all ages. We love sharing recommendations from a wide variety of genres, styles, and book length. From picture books to graphic novels to fiction texts, the “feast of stories” is there for all to enjoy.
Please see below for our resource pack, booklist and details of the competition, open to all children aged 5-13.
The Feast of Stories Competition has now closed and the winners informed.
