National Share-a-Story Month
National Share-A-Story Month (NSSM) is an annual celebration of the power of storytelling and story sharing, providing a fantastic opportunity to fulfil the core aim of the FCBG of bringing children and stories together. Across the country Federation book groups and individuals run a whole host of events. Each year we are inspired by a specific theme and work with different organisations to provide people with resources and opportunities.
National Share a Story Month 2025
Organised by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups, National Share a Story Month is an annual event designed to celebrate the fabulous world of children’s fiction and to inspire a love of reading by sharing stories. In 2025, the theme of National Share a Story Month is Saving the World, One Book at a Time. Our plans are designed to celebrate both the joy of sharing stories and the importance of our local environment to our health and wellbeing.
Booklist
A brand new booklist will be published on our website on Thursday May 1st 2025. So many fabulous books have been published that encourage children to cherish the environment. Carefully selected from the cream of recent releases, our list will include our top recommendations. Whether you are looking for picture books, graphic novels or poetry; novels for younger readers or young adults, turn to our list for inspiration and guidance.
Blogs
The booklist will be supplemented by a series of judiciously curated blogposts from authors and experts. Read how a range of authors (established and just starting out) have turned to the environment for inspiration or check for expert advice on how to organise a magnificent community reading event.
Competitions
We are excited to launch exciting national competitions for individuals and groups to get involved in. Check the competitions and resources page for more information. For local competitions, please get in touch with your local book group.
