National Share-a-Story Month
National Share-A-Story Month (NSSM) is an annual celebration of the power of storytelling and story sharing, providing a fantastic opportunity to fulfil the core aim of the FCBG of bringing children and stories together. Across the country Federation book groups and individuals run a whole host of events. Each year we are inspired by a specific theme and work with different organisations to provide people with resources and opportunities.
National Share a Story Month 2022 has the theme of Belonging
We wanted to develop a theme that might help children find their place in the world of books, stories and imagination. Belonging is that powerful sense of being in the right place at the right time and books can provide this as much as a friendship group, club or team.
Everyone deserves to feel as though they belong and are loved for who they are!
We want to celebrate unique and different books, characters who we can connect with and places we know or wish to visit around the world or in our dreams.
Our booklists are comprehensive and our competitions for 2022 are thoughtful and engaging.
Do get involved and share your photos with us via nssm@fcbg.org.uk
Class or Library Display Competition
Groups of students are invited to create an engaging and inclusive display about our theme of Belonging. Photos can be shared by email and prizes will be awarded.
I Belong Competition
Show us all the ways in which you feel you belong. As part of your family, friendship group, team, culture- the sky is the limit. Get creative and share these with us via post or by sending photos. Further details can be found on the poster. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories (5-7, 8-10, 11+).
Belonging Book Recommendations
Have you read a book where you felt a part of the story or where the character was similar to you in some way? Did you connect with the setting or have a similar experience? Share your Belonging Book with us via photo or drawing and we will create a PDF of these brilliant books. Photo permissions are required.
