National Non-Fiction November
National Non-Fiction November is the Federation of Children’s Book Groups’ annual celebration of all things factual. Born out of National Non-Fiction Day, the brain child of Adam Lancaster during his years as Chair, the whole month now celebrates all those readers that have a passion for information and facts and attempts to bring non fiction celebration in line with those of fiction.
National Non-Fiction November 2026
This year’s theme is ‘Reading is an Adventure’. It will be encouraging children and young people to use non-fiction books in the outside world – not just to read them, but to use the information in a more practical way. For example, read a book about bugs and then be inspired to go on your own bug hunt. Another example could be to read about learning a skill and then doing the skill, or read about a place then go to it. The topics will be Bugs, Animals, People, Places, Nature, and Adventures at Home.
The competition this year will be for children and young people to record their adventure with their book either in a diary entry or poster for younger children, or for older children they can submit a mini documentary style video (2 minutes maximum). The book that inspired the adventure must be mentioned in the submission piece. The winning entries will win a bundle of age appropriate books and a certificate.
Submission forms and further details will be released in October, but feel free to start the entry now!
