National Non-Fiction November 2022 Competition

Our annual celebration of all things factual is only a few weeks away now! National Non-Fiction November provides a great opportunity to highlight some of the best of current non-fiction publishing and to champion and promote reading information books for pleasure.

To coincide with this year’s theme of Communication, our competition has been inspired by Andy Seed’s brilliantly funny ‘Interview With …’ series, published by Welbeck Children’s Books. This film was made specially to coincide with the competition and could be used (in part or its entirety) to kickstart the competition with a book group or class.

Open to 5-12-year-olds living in the UK, we are inviting each entrant to choose either an animal or historical character and create an illustrated interview with them using a Q & A format. We hope that entrants will enjoy researching their animal or person of choice. This would make a great activity for book groups and library lessons. Entries will be judged on their originality, creativity and presentation, according to age (5-7, 8-10 and 11-12). We are very excited that Andy and illustrators Nick East and Gareth Conway will be choosing winners from our category shortlists and an overall winner whose book group or school will receive a visit from Andy.

The deadline for submitting entries is Monday 5th December 2022, so there is plenty of time for researching, writing and illustrating! We can’t wait to see your entries!
