Children’s Book Award Blog Tour- Supa Nova by Chante Timothy

Today is the last day for the blog tour celebrating our shortlisted titles in the Books for Younger Readers category. We welcome Chante Timothy to the blog answering our questions about Supa Nova, the last of the shortlisted titles in this category!

How does it feel to be nominated for the Children’s Book Award? This is the only book award that is voted on solely by children across the UK.
It’s absolutely incredible, as a children’s book author you often have to appeal to adults first so to be shortlisted by children (my real audience) means so much! I’m honoured.
Tell us more about your book.
Supa Nova is a comic book series. Nova is a scientist, some people say she’s a genius.
In this first book Nova invents a plastic-eating monster, she thinks she’s solved the world’s pollution problem. But she doesn’t expect her monster to start rampaging through the city!

What do you hope that readers will take from reading your book?
I hope that readers like the Real Science behind the book, have a good laugh at the crazy adventures and by the end I want them to know that they can do anything if they put enough hard work and determination behind it.
Where do you find ideas and inspiration for your books?
Growing up I watched A LOT of TV and movies and that inspired me with a lot of my story telling, I also like knowing interesting facts about science and now I get to share what I’ve learnt with the world. Draw/Create what interests you and you’ll find others who like the same things you do!
Are you working on anything exciting that you can tell us about?
I’ve just completed the second book that comes out this year! So watch this space for more Supa Nova adventures.
What advice would you give children keen to be an author or illustrator in the future?
Keep creating, make mistakes but just start even if it’s a scribble on the page. Everything will fall into place if you keep going, learn from any mistakes and fail upwards. Most importantly just have fun.

Children across the UK are encouraged to get involved. Copies of the books can be purchased at a discount from our partner supplier Heath Books here https://www.heathbooks.co.uk/federation-of-childrens-book-groups-childrens-book-award-2026/ and online voting will be opened on Monday 23rd March here https://fcbg.org.uk/childrens-book-award-2026/

The deadline for voting is 12 noon on Friday 8th May and category winners and the overall winner of the most popular children’s book published in 2025 will be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on 13th June, attended by representatives from all our local groups and livestreamed on the FCBG YouTube channel.
